Error while clicking on "View Workgroup Computers": "Workgroup is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this Network resource. Contact the Administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions".
Original Title: How come when I click on "My Network Places" and then click "View Workgroup computers", it gives me a message saying: (PLEASE READ THE REST) I need your help!____ "Workgroup is not accessible. You may not have permission to use thiis Network resource. Contact the Administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions"."The list of servers for this Workgroup is currently unavailable".First of all I don't know much about Workgroup and Domains however I do know I am NOT part of a Domain but and I never thought I was part of a Workgroup either until I got this message. This message has always come up since day 1. It tells me to contact the Administrator of this server to find out if I have access permission.I AM the Admnistrator! I should have access or oermission so it says to all folders on my computer right? Why is Workgroup NOT accessible and what am I part of a server that I don't know about. I'm really confused. If someone could help me that would be great. I'm just trying to learn and altimately find out if my computer is being used as a server. Another thing is, I will go to open a file and it will say it's being used by someone else. Who? I have a Windows XP Pro laptop and it's not part of any group etc.One more thing and sorry this is taking so long but this is important to me. The more input I get from you guys the better. Anyway, I am one to never use a password block on my user account. I just click on my name and the computer starts. Well my computer was having issues one day and blue screeed out. To make a LONG story short, when I went back into my computer under "safe mode" I forgot what I was doing exactly but it blue screened out again IN SAFE MODE! Is this normal??? And then I went back and did it again and all of a sudden there are two (2) user accounts showing. One is mine with my name and one says Administrator. I though hhmm so I tried to log into this mysterious Administrator account using the basic guesses and couldn't so i went into my own.My point is with all of this information above, after I think about it, I feel like someone hacked into my computer and is using it as a server. Is that stupid to think? You can tell me. Well I'll leave you with that. Thanks for reading my novel and I hope at least a few members get back to me but as many as possible. I would like a lot of feedback. Thanks again and I look forward to your resonses!GoldiLX

HiGoldiLX, - Do you remember the error message that you received with the blue screen? If yes, specify the same.- Do you still get blue screen while you boot into Safe Mode?- Does the Administrator account prompt you to enter the password? The account that you saw in Safe Mode, which reads "Administrator", is an acount which has administrator priviledges and is visible only in Safe Mode. This behavior may occur if all the following conditions are true:NetBIOS over TCP/IP is not turned on (enabled) on one or more computers in the workgroup. The Computer Browser service is not started or is turned off on one or more computers in the workgroup. This behavior may also occur if File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks is not installed or is blocked by Windows Firewall. Click on the Fix it tool from the link given below and see if it fixes the issue. You cannot access shared files and folders or browse computers in the workgroup with Windows XP Here are few other articles which address this issue. Follow the steps listed in these articles as well and see which one of it helps you in fixing the issue. Hi Divya R-Thank you so much for replying back to me. I didn't hear from anyone for so long.Anyway, when i get "blue screened" it only flashes up on my computer for a second so i don't get to read anything it says. it pissis me off because i always try to read something before it goes away but its too quick.Yes, I got "blue screened" while in safe mode. I can't remember exactly what i was doing at the time. maybe it will come to me. i don't know if that is of importance ot not?Yes, the Adminstrator account (which only came up that one time in safe mode) asked me for a password and of course i tried "administrator and password and admin stuff like that and could not get in so i clicked on my account to get into safe mode. i was just really curious where this administrator account came from thinking that i was the administrator the whole time. i actually don't think i am or i have had my rights taken away etc. (hacked). So you have seen the Administrator account in safe mode yourself? Even though you are the administrator? And if so, did it ask you for a password? Just curious. Also, (I just thought of this because we were takking about the blue screen) whenever I click on a .exe file to see what it is, it either opens for 1 second like the blue screen or it doesn't come up at all like i'm not suppose to be able to see it or something. Does this happen to you? I also don't have permissions to open certain files either or it is in use. In use by who? I don't understand.I want to thank you for all of thie links you gave me. i haven't read them yet becausee i wanted to get back to you asap but i will start right now. Thanks for all of your help.GoldiLX
